A Bit About Me

I’m a Dad and a Writer.

Everything else tends to orbit those two things.

Career-wise, I’ve spent the past decade or so writing for brands big and small—Old Spice, the University of Chicago, SlimFast, Mass General Hospital, and a bunch of others you’ve probably heard of (and some you haven’t). I’ve worked in advertising, higher ed, financial services, healthcare, and the ever-expanding void of “content.” I’ve written TV spots, radio scripts, fundraising emails, landing pages, internal comms, web copy, whitepapers, thought leadership, and probably a few things I’ve forgotten.

But at the heart of it, what I care about—what I’ve always cared about—is using language to connect with people. To make them feel something. Or laugh. Or just keep reading.

My first taste of that was in third grade, when I wrote a parody of Star Trek: The Next Generation that made my classmates laugh and made my dad—an actual Trekkie—absurdly proud. I wish I still had those stories. I don’t know if they were any good, but they were mine.

I’m still writing stories now. Some short, some strange, some (hopefully) good. I’m working on a novel about a dad and his kids and the weird magic of fatherhood. I’ve written a children’s book, too—maybe it’ll get published, maybe it won’t. Either way, it exists.

When I’m not writing or parenting, I’m probably playing golf. Or thinking about golf. Or fantasizing about getting paid to travel the world writing about golf. I also love dinosaurs, Shakespeare, Dungeons & Dragons, and my dog. Not in that order. Okay, maybe in that order.

If you’ve read this far, thank you. If you’re my mom—hi, Mom. And if you’re not, I love you anyway.
